Visit Port Gamble, WA | Historic Waterfront Town, Shops & Attractions

A Day Trip Worth Taking.

Port Gamble isn't just a dot on the map — it's one of the best-preserved historic towns in Washington State, sitting right on the shores of Hood Canal where it meets Puget Sound. And if you're making the trip, we think the General Store should be your first stop.

Getting Here

Port Gamble is easier to reach than most people think.

  • Ferry from Seattle: Take the Edmonds–Kingston Washington State Ferry (about 30 minutes on the water), then drive 10 minutes south on Highway 104. It's half the fun.
  • From Bremerton: 20 minutes north on Highway 3
  • From Poulsbo: 10 minutes — practically neighbors
  • From Tacoma / Olympia: About 90 minutes through beautiful Kitsap Peninsula countryside
  • From the Olympic Peninsula: Cross the Hood Canal Bridge and you're minutes away

While You're Here

Port Gamble is a genuine step back in time — a Victorian-era company town that looks much like it did over a century ago. Plan to spend at least a few hours.

  • The General Store & Café — Start here. Browse, discover something wonderful, and grab lunch or an ice cream before you explore.
  • The Of Sea & Shore Museum — Right upstairs in our building. Free admission. The world's second-largest privately-owned shell collection.
  • The Port Gamble Historic Museum — A beautifully preserved look at the town's mill town history, just steps away.
  • The Historic District — Walk the streets, admire the Victorian homes, and soak in a pace of life that feels wonderfully unhurried.

Make a Day of It

Port Gamble pairs beautifully with a broader Kitsap Peninsula day trip. Combine it with a morning in Poulsbo (charming Scandinavian waterfront town, excellent bakeries), a drive along Hood Canal, or a visit to Bainbridge Island.

This corner of Washington is wildly underrated — and once you find it, you'll be back.

"One of those places you stumble upon and immediately start planning your return trip."
